Repair Projects and The Lawson Centre for Sustainability Construction

Repairs and renovations may occur over the summer.听 If your room is affected, you will be notified and, if necessary and if possible, given a temporary room. Notice of major projects will be posted at the Welcome Desk.

This is an exciting time for the Trinity Community as the construction for the Lawson Centre for Sustainability will continue this summer until its completion in the Spring of 2025. Although the construction site is located across the street from St. Hilda鈥檚 College, regrettably due to this, there may be disturbances such as noise, vibrations, dust during construction hours only (as permitted by the City of Toronto Bylaws) and bright lights (at night) which is beyond the College鈥檚 control. Nonetheless, we commit to keeping you informed of developments and advocate for residents, so impact is kept at a minimal level.听

Keeping Residence Pest-free

When students move into their room at 麻豆视频在线看, they are moving into a pest-free space.

As with any shared living space, issues with pests can arise while living in residence. When this happens, the Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 and the Facilities Department work on an individual basis with students to eradicate the issue. If you suspect that you or your community has a pest issue, you are encouraged to report this issue promptly to the Welcome Desk or the Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看.

The College checks all rooms and treats all pest-affected spaces at the College twice a year 鈥 before students move into residence and once students move out of residence.

Reporting Pest Problems

Don鈥檛 worry, 麻豆视频在线看 has an evidence-informed process for responding to a variety of pest issues. To initiate this process, follow these steps:

  1. Contact the Welcome Desk or the Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 and fill out a Pest Report. You may be asked to provide a picture of the pest/signs of the pest for identification purposes.
  2. After reviewing your report, the Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 will liaise with the Facilities Department to determine next steps.
  3. The Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 will follow-up with you regarding next step, which could include:
  • Inspection by a K-9 unit
  • Initiation of pest eradication treatment

Pest Prevention Tips听

To prevent pests in residence, you are encouraged to:

  • Keep your living space clean
  • Keep food in sealed containers
  • Not leave open food or dirty food containers in your space
  • Not accumulate garbage in your room
  • Not accumulate clutter in your room
  • Clean up any spills and wipe down surfaces that have been in contact with food
  • Use a mattress cover on your bed, between the mattress and the sheets

Common Pests

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are small, wingless bugs that feed primarily on blood. If bedbugs are present, they usually live close to the vicinity of where the 鈥渉ost鈥 sleeps. Bedbugs can鈥檛 fly or jump. Bedbugs are not a health threat and have not been shown to spread disease to humans.

Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye. An adult bedbug is approximately the size of an apple seed, flat and brown or rusty-red in colour.听 Eggs are whitish and pearl shaped, the size of a pin head and usually found in a cluster.

What are some signs of bed bugs?

When looking for evidence of bedbugs focus on the bed, mattress, linens, and the area immediately around the bed. Evidence may include:

  • Black/brown spots (dried blood or bug feces)
  • White spots (eggs)
  • Live or dead bedbugs

Bites are small, itchy red bumps (typically two or three in a row), usually found around the arms and hands or upper torso. Because the bites may resemble mosquito or other insect bites, a bump alone does not mean that there are bedbugs.

What is the treatment process for confirmed cases of bed bugs? *

1.听听听听听听 The student will be provided with a room treatment schedule. Eradication requires a minimum of 2 treatments, 2 weeks apart.

2.听听听听听听 The student is required to prepare their room for treatment. The Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 will provide the student with instructions and the necessary supplies.

3.听听听听听听 On the day of a treatment the student will be asked to vacate their room for 7-8 hours; the bed bug treatment takes 1-1.5 hours and requires 6 hours for the fumes to dissipate.

4.听听听听听听 If the bedbugs are not eradicated after two treatments, additional treatments may be required.

Questions or concerns about pests?

Having a pest issue is stressful and getting rid of them requires diligence and patience. 麻豆视频在线看 are encouraged to communicate with the Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 should they have questions or concerns. The Office of the Dean of 麻豆视频在线看 and the Facilities Department are committed to work with all students to support them with all pest related issues.
